LAN Transfer

LAN Transfer lets a computer browser access a phone or tablet app's library to transfer files, organize projects, and edit playlists. It is different from the standalone GrooveJog web app.

Project transfer

Device Transfer lets you send a saved project between your computers, phones and tablets, including between two browsers or two apps. LAN Management lets a browser manage the library on a phone or tablet; it does not manage the browser app’s own library.

On the sending device, save the current project and choose Send current project. On the receiving device, choose Receive project and enter the sender’s ten-character pairing code. In the phone or tablet app, you can also scan the sender’s QR code. The code expires after ten minutes and can be used once. Confirm the project on the receiving device to start the transfer.

The phone and tablet apps keep the Project Transfer and LAN Management tabs. In the browser, expand Manage files on a phone or tablet below the project-transfer controls and enter the address displayed by that device’s LAN service.

The transfer includes source media, available stems and practice settings, including clips, notes, Pad and beat settings. It does not resume playback or copy device-local history. A matching project updates in place and keeps playlist and archive references. If the local version changed, Keep both is the default; you can also replace it or cancel. The kept copy becomes the target of future transfers. Ordinary .gjproject import still creates an independent copy.

Keep both apps in the foreground and both screens unlocked. Leaving the app or locking the screen cancels a transfer before final saving. Final saving cannot be cancelled. Success is shown after the receiver verifies and saves the project; retries check the saved receipt. Transfers restart from the beginning.

A temporary signaling service establishes the direct WebRTC connection; it does not store or relay project files. There is no TURN fallback. If a direct connection fails, try the same Wi-Fi or use LAN Management. Builds without a configured signaling service show an unavailable message. Existing per-media size and duration limits still apply.

Receiving temporarily needs roughly twice the project size in free space, plus a safety margin. If a folder’s free space cannot be measured, the app says so; a write failure does not replace the existing project. After saving, the app opens the received project through the usual unsaved-changes check, without autoplay. If opening fails, the saved project remains in the library.

Connect

  1. Open Device Transfer from the menu or More, then choose LAN Management.
  2. Connect the computer and device to the same network.
  3. Enter the panel's URL in the computer browser, then enter the six-digit pairing code.
  4. Keep the panel open during transfer and do not lock the device.

Tap the URL to copy it. “Share Link” sends an entry link with pairing information; “Scan to Connect” lets another phone or tablet scan it.

See Transfer Webpage for available operations. You do not need to install GrooveJog on the computer.

Pairing and Disconnection

The pairing code changes when the server restarts. Extended inactivity, network changes, or pairing problems may stop the server; the panel log explains why.

For an incorrect code, follow the webpage's prompts. Five consecutive incorrect attempts cause a temporary one-minute lockout. When the server stops, the old connection becomes invalid; connect again.

Network and Privacy

Files travel over the LAN without passing through a cloud file server. Transfer uses HTTP, so others on the same network may observe traffic. Use a trusted home or studio network.

Common Questions

The URL will not open. Check that both devices are on the same network and the panel is still open. Public networks such as hotels may isolate devices; use your own network or try a phone hotspot.

Transfer disconnected partway through. Check whether the device locked, changed networks, or stopped the server.

The webpage asks to pair again. Use the current code in the app panel; old codes do not work after a restart.

Large files transfer slowly. Speed depends on network conditions. If you only need a section, trim and save it in the app before transferring.

Transfer progress and controls

The app keeps the connection address and pairing code visible. Active tasks appear above recent activity. Receiving and sending show actual byte progress, total size, and speed when available. Importing and packaging show their current stage and elapsed time; receiving all bytes does not mean a project has finished importing.

You can cancel an individual task from the app or computer. It remains “Cancelling…” until the operation has stopped. Final saving cannot be cancelled. If saving has already succeeded, the task remains completed. Cancelling one task does not stop the LAN server or undo completed imports.

Retry starts the transfer from the beginning; it is not resumable. During the same session, the app checks the previous result before retrying to avoid importing a successful task twice. Retrying from the app requires the original computer webpage to remain connected and retain the source file. If that page was closed or refreshed, select the file again on the computer. Keep the app open and the device unlocked.

For exports, “Sent” in the app means the data was sent. The computer shows “Handed to browser for saving” after receiving the file and handing it to the browser; this does not confirm that it was saved to disk.
